Overnight Backpacking Trip to Lonesome Lake Hut

Franconia Notch State Park
Saturday, June 30 - Sunday, July 1, 2012

Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country (ASPNC) in conjunction with
the Appalachian Mountain Club's Youth Opportunities Program is pleased to
offer an overnight backpacking trip to Lonesome Lake Hut for teens aged
14-17 who are blind or have low vision.

On Saturday, June 30th, pre-registered hikers will meet at 10AM at the
Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia Notch State Park. Here we will
review gear and make certain that all hikers have all necessary items for an
overnight stay in a backcountry hut. Gear is available for borrowing if
needed. Each teen with visual impairment or blindness will be paired with a
trained, sighted teen guide; the group will also be accompanied by two adult
guides who are trained backcountry trip leaders and are also certified in
wilderness first-aid.

The cost is $55 per person and includes meals from lunch on Saturday through
lunch on Sunday.

Lonesome Lake Hut:
Lonesome Lake Hut is a very popular hut for youth groups because there is
plenty to do and the hike up is relatively short and easy. Lots of families
come to the hut and participate in the many programs offered by volunteers.

The hut sits on the edge of Lonesome Lake where you can fish and swim. Short
day hikes in the area include Mt. Kinsman and Cannon Mountain. The 1.6 mile
hike (via the Lonesome Lake Trail) to the hut might take about 3 hours for a
group. You will gain 1,000 feet of elevation.

Lonesome Lake Hut is open year-round and is full service during June - early
October. Full service means you will be provided with dinner the night of
your arrival and breakfast the following morning. Bedding is provided in the
form of a bunk with mattress, 3 wool blankets and a pillow.

Registration:

$55.00 per person

Space is very limited so please do not hesitate to call or email to start
your registration process.

Trip details, packing list and other information will be provided once you
have completed the registration process.
