  National Federation of the Blind Urges Senate HELP Committee 
  to Confirm Nomination of Tom Perez for Secretary of Labor
   
  Perez's Confirmation Would Increase Job Opportunities for Disabled Americans
   

  Baltimore, Maryland (May 15, 2013): The National Federation of the Blind, the oldest and largest organization of blind people, today urged the United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) to confirm the nomination of Tom Perez for the position of secretary of labor.  Mr. Perez currently serves as the assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division.  The executive session of the HELP committee will be held tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. 
   
  Dr. Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind, said: "The National Federation of the Blind strongly urges the HELP committee to confirm Tom Perez as secretary of labor tomorrow.  In his role as assistant attorney general, Mr. Perez has proven his commitment to enforcing and protecting the civil rights of all Americans, including the disabled.  We believe that he would bring that same passion and commitment to his appointment as secretary of labor, working to increase job opportunities for the blind and other disabled Americans."
