Subject: federationists needed to speak (virtually) to blind high school students

Hi Federationists!
I am an Orientation and Mobility Specialist with Santa Fe Public Schools. I am seeking any Federationist with public transportation experience in any city, in any state to share your past or current experience(s) with high schools with blindness. Last spring my students greatly enjoyed the virtual meetings with a couple of Federationists on another O and M topic and requested to have that type of "instruction" again during this remote learning time. This would be an informal conversation with 1 to 4 students for about 30 minutes (or more if you have the time). The number of students will depend on the time you are available. Our preferred dates are between August 26 and October 9. Our preferred times are weekdays between 4:05 pm and 5:05 pm and Saturdays. If you are only available later on the weekday evenings, please let me know and we can try to accommodate your schedule.

During this remote learning time these students will be studying trip planning in regards to public transportation use. We will be discussing buses, commuter trains, light rail, monorail, streetcars, trolleys, ferries etc. and learning how to use the internet and a couple of apps to make a trip plan. These students have had experiences with public transportation (Santa Fe and Albuquerque city buses and the RailRunner) so they do have basic concepts of bus and train use. They will be working on an individual project of living in a BIG city and completing trip plans to get to two different destinations using so if you have public transportation experience (one time, occasional or daily) in a BIG city and would like to share that, it would be greatly appreciated but any public transportation experience anywhere, even in Albuquerque or Santa Fe, is also greatly appreciated.

We would meet virtually via Google Meet (it is the only platform our school district permits). There is an app for Google Meet which can be downloaded for free onto a cell phone. I would send you the meeting invite just before our pre-arranged meeting time and once you receive it, it can be tapped on and the meeting session will open in the Google Meet app. You will then tap to join the meeting session.

If you are interested in sharing about your public transportation experience(s), please contact me via email at mricci at sfps.k12.nm.us <mailto:mricci at sfps.k12.nm.us> or via my cell at 505-3505409.

Thank you,
Maryann Ricci
