New Mexico's Senior Division (SAGE) meets the second Wednesday of every
month at 7:00 Mountain time. All are welcome. Please join us on February 8
to hear what Glenn Crosby, the President of the Senior Division has to say.
Here is his bio.
Glenn Crosby was born, in Beaumont, TX, in 1945. He became blind as the
result of an accident when he was three-years-old. Glenn attended the Texas
School for the Blind and graduated in 1963. Following graduation, he
returned to his home to attend the University of Houston. He majored in
political science and worked while attending school. His jobs included a
stent as a health club worker, secretary to the director of the Poverty
Program, and a musician.
Following college, Glenn had the opportunity to respond to a request for
proposals to provide foodservice at a court building in Houston, Texas.
Although this opportunity did not fit into the plans he had for himself, he
decided to take it, and it worked out well for him. He had actually grown up
in a family that worked in the foodservice industry. So, he had a fair
amount of knowledge related to the business.
During the same time he was starting his first business, he also found the
National Federation of the Blind. He joined in 1967, and was thrown into the
presidency of the NFB of Texas in 1968. He attended his first national
convention that year and helped to bring the convention to Texas in 1971. He
stepped down from the presidency before the 1971 convention in order to
allow a more experienced person to host that convention, and he did not
become president, again, until 1977.
While Glenn built his business, and worked to build the Federation in Texas,
he also began to raise a family. His son was born in 1971, and in 1976, a
daughter joined the family. As his children grew, he was active in their
lives as most parents are. He served on the board of the Heights Little
league, and he also served on the board of All Saints Catholic School, where
his children attended.
Glenn was divorced in 1984, and in 1989, he married Norma Crosby. In so
doing, he added two more children to his family. Glenn retired in 2013,
after forty-five years in business for himself. Today, he serves as
president of the NFB Seniors Division and is the first gentleman of the NFB
of Texas. He remains an active member at both the affiliate and national
levels.
