Happy New Year Janet.
I forwarded an e-mail which I thought you might share with the
chapter.
Every year the disability coalition sponsors a disability
advocacy day during the legislative session in Santa Fe. It
includes cross disabilities. There will be a forum to review the
issues which relate to people with disabilities.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Take care, Larry Lorenzo.

Happy 2024! With the arrival of the new year and this year’s
legislative session fast approaching, it’s time for The
Disability Coalition’s pre-legislative-session forum as part of
Disability Rights Awareness Days. If you haven’t already
registered to attend the forum, do it now!

The 2024 forum will be held in person on Saturday, January 13 at
the CNM Workforce Training Center in Albuquerque and will include
a morning plenary and afternoon breakout sessions. Our lunchtime
speaker will be Senator Siah Correa Hemphill from Silver City.
Senator Hemphill is a school psychologist and the parent of a
young man on the Developmental Disabilities Waiver. She’s also a
member of the interim Legislative Finance Committee and the
Senate Finance Committee, which play key roles in developing the
state budget. We look forward to hearing her insights on what’s
to come in this year’s legislative session and how YOU can be
involved!

The morning plenary will include an overview of the state’s
budget outlook with particular focus on agencies providing
disabilities services, an update on special education,
information on alternatives to guardianship that can promote
independence for people with disabilities, and a preview of
disability-related legislation that’s expected to be introduced
in this year’s legislative session.

In the afternoon, we’ll have two rounds of breakout sessions for
you to choose from. For a complete listing of topics and
presenters, see the DRAD website at
