Subject: [NFB-of-Delaware] NFB NOBBL Women's Group Meeting Notice - Feb 10,
2025
National Federation of the Blind
National Organization of Blind Black Leaders
Women's Group February Meeting Notification
Monday, February 10, 2025
A discussion with Dr. Amy Laster, PhD
The National Organization of Blind Black Leaders Women's Group cordially
invite all to attend our next meeting which will be held on Monday, February
10th at 7 pm via Zoom. As most of you know, February is Black History Month,
a time spent intentionally looking back on the history of Black people in
America. This means looking at both the triumphs and the trials that bring
us to this current moment in time. For me, and many others, this is done
with the consideration of how we can move forward into the future in an even
better way. If you are like me, you have been asked to participate in some
form of research. In the past, especially for African Americans, research
has had a challenging, and sometimes troubling, history; but it is a
necessity for moving forward in scientific and medical advances. So how do
we become aware of clinical research & medical advancements in inherited
retinal diseases?
And, how do we participate in a safe and productive way? To address these
questions, our guest will be Dr. Amy Laster, PhD. Dr. Amy Laster is the
interim chief scientific officer at the Foundation Fighting Blindness, the
driving force in the global development of treatments and cures for retinal
degenerative diseases. Dr. Vandelon Holland, a member of the NOBBL Women's
Group, and a Pharmacist will be facilitating this discussion. I think it
will be a great discussion about research, the African American experience,
and what's new in the fields of medical research about retinal eye
conditions. As usual, your questions and comments will be important in
making this a valuable discussion for all. Please join us and invite others
who may be interested. The Zoom link is below, and I have attached a more
detailed bio for Dr. Amy Laster. We look forward to talking with you in the
Zoom room.
Sincerely. Carol King-Ries
