Dear All NFB Mailing List Readers:
I have not been impressed with what Sara Gelser has done to blind people over the last year. I don't feel that she is really listening to blind people. The worst part is that she has turned a deaf ear to blind people who also happen to know what's best for blind people. If you read past my message, I have put in what was sent to me. Sara Gelser is concidering on what to do with the money that will come from the OSB sale. I can't say that I will believe what she says that she is going to do with the money from the OSB sale especially after what we all have experienced last spring. I want to know that she has followed through before I believe what she says. I want evidence that she follows through with what she says that she is going to do with this soon to be made bill. What is she going to actually do with the money from the OSB sale? Is she going to just throw it away like garbage? Is she going to just put it into the general fund like she did with the money from closing the Oregon School for the Blind in the first place? I hope that she doesn't make more of a mess than she did last spring. I am not happy with what she has done! I don't like the fact that President Obama has picked her to be on the National Counsel of Disabilities. We all know that Sara Gelser doesn't always put money where she says that she is going to put it. I have a feeling that this will turn nasty in February because it is an issue in this special legislative session. I also believe that President Obama has made a major mistake in nominating Sara Gelser to the Counsel of Disabillities. I hope that you all will be ready to vote in the next election because we all have the power to vote Sara Gelser out of her office. Oregon needs someone who listens to all groups instead of one or two groups of Oregonians. Please read what I have below so that you are all updated in this issue. Thank you.

>From Gelser's letter today to Benton County Democrats:
"This week, the Legislature will also be meeting in "Legislative Days" as we prepare for the February Legislative Session. Committees will hold public hearings and informational sessions on legislative concepts likely to be considered during the February session. Check the Legislative Agendas website to see what your favorite committee will be working on. (See below for an overview of what we will hear in the House Education Committee, which I chair.)
In February, we will meet for a short session to make any necessary changes to the state budget, and to pass a handful of bills. Each House member is allowed to introduce one bill, while Senators are allowed to introduce two. In addition, legislative committees, in consultation with the Speaker and Senate President, may introduce a handful of bills.
Almost all of the bills to be considered by the House in February are now available for your review online. You can read through them here: http://www.leg.state.or.us/bills_laws/concepts/
My committee will be considering several bills in February. These include the following:
"Oregon School for the Blind: The committee will consider a bill that makes a statutory clarification allowing schools benefitting from the Blind and Visually Impaired Student fund to still access the High Cost Disability Grant on behalf of former OSB students. The bill will also make modifications to the planned distribution of any proceeds from the sale of the property where the former school was located."
