Hi Noreen!
 I don’tt know if you remember me. I met you at Youth SLAM in 2007 both at the evening star parties and at the Jurnigan Institute in Baltimore. I’m the one who wanted to read one of your books that wasn’t quite ready to be published yet at the time because the braille editing wasn’t lined up with the print editing. I’m also the one who was endlessly fassinated with the astronomy technology that I got to learn about during that trip. When Tina met you at the convention this year, she told you about a local musium that wasn’t accessable and how a blind person had to get everything read to them by their aunt. Yep!!! I’m that blind person in question. I didn’t know that you were on this list. I’m glad to see you here!!! I’m also glad to see you back in the NFB again!!! Tina and I are meeting each other in person on August 10th and outside of events that we’re doing together, we are not meeting before that date to work on our moon project that you’ve been following. Because of this and by the sounds of it, you’re probably booked on that day, what ideas do you have? You can also post them here because Tina and I are both on this list. If we have any questions about your ideas or want more information, one of us will be happy to ask questions and share ideas. I sent some of my own ideas out here but since there are some things that I can’t replecate that I would love to with this project, I’d particularly like some good ideas to help get around berriers that only musiums can bypass. Also, we’re also looking for good ideas to show off what the moon looks like and all about it without resourting to visual ways to showing off the moon. I still have all of my old swell form pictures from Youth SLAM but only one of them shows the moon and it’s the quorter moon phase. The rest of them have nothing to do with the moon at all.

Good news!!! Noreen Grice finally came out of the woodwork. We have been waiting for her to come out of the woodwork for years!!! We already got her contact information and we’re planning on contacting her on August 10, 2018. I agree that she might have some awesome ideas. I don’t know if we’ll be able to use plaster but I like the clay idea. I wonder if play doe would work as well? Play doe can either be made at home or bought and be transported to the site and used for the kids to play with at a later time. I wonder if play doe is a better option for the kids to try making a moon with?

Hi Tina and all,

Kendra suggested some good ideas. I have a couple ideas. One idea is
to take some plaster and have the kids drop some rocks on it. You can
explain how the rocks are like the meteors that hit the moon. And then
you can use the models of the Satern 5 and tell them about how the
Apollo 11 crew landed on the moon. You could use the models and have
the kids land them on the dented plaster. Another idea would be to use
modeling clay and ask the kids to sculpt a small moon.

It might be a good idea to contact Noreen Grice. I met her at a couple
of the NFB science camps in 2009 and 2011. She does a lot of things
related to astronomy and making it accessible. An email you can try is
youcandoastronomy at yahoo.com<mailto:youcandoastronomy at yahoo.com> Noreen may have some ideas for you as
well. She created You Can Do Astronomy and the website is
http://www.youcandoastronomy.com. There is some ideas on there you
could potentially use.

If it's not long enough, we can't pull it off. Mind you, this kind of rocket is as tall as a Red Wood tree which is usually in the 300 foot range for an adult Red Wood tree. The younger ones are smaller than 300 feet which would be expected because they are trees that are still growing. I have also brainstormed things like showing off the differences between what ten pounds would feel like on earth VS. ten pounds on the moon. True, I can't borrow the spot where they demonstrate what the moon's landscape
feels like to walk on nor the one sixth gravity chair that I got to experience at Space Camp but I'm sure that we could show these things off in the ways I have listed in this Email.
