[Nfb-science] Brailler and tactile drawing recommendations

Hello Kevin,

The drawings will not be squeezed down; however, the drawings are on copy paper, and the feelable drawings have weakened the paper.

The Sensational Blackboard is mainly for sharing a quick sketch for learning purposes. Both the blind and sighted can see these drawings because the drawings are made with a ballpoint pen. The pen makes tiny tears in the paper which is what the blind can feel; however, the tears weaken the paper.

Hi Louis,

Thanks for passing that along, I hadn't heard of it.

Do you know how durable the drawings are?

Thanks,

Kevin

This is a $50 soft-sided board that allows you to draw on standard printer paper. It is good for quick sketches. You can't erase with it.

Subject: [Nfb-science] Brailler and tactile drawing recommendations

Hi Everyone,

I am extremely fortunate to have some grant money to spend on products to help my research, including accessibility-related items. Due to convenience and cost, I have been using screenreaders 99.999% of the time for my research. However, braille would be very helpful, especially for presentation notes and math equations. I'm thinking about the cosmo brailler, which is both a very quiet braille writer and braille embosser. However, it is very new and I'm not sure how good it is. Has anyone used it? The link for it is:
https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dancingdots.com%2Fprodesc%2FCosmo.htm&data=02%7C01%7C%7C5ffc2daf149f45adf9ca08d58e78b9d6%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636571571512883736&sdata=dIDjZBPSFwH2ytI%2FskpwoGhbDKcgX4RbA5pWCD192lY%3D&reserved=0

I am also thinking about tactile drawing kits. In undergrad courses, I used the Draftsman drawing kit from AFB:
https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fshop.aph.org%2Fwebapp%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2FProduct_DRAFTSMAN%2520Tactile%2520Drawing%2520Board_1-08857-00P_10001_10001&data=02%7C01%7C%7C5ffc2daf149f45adf9ca08d58e78b9d6%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636571571512883736&sdata=93XEqlhfM0uG18Q3mhTgDLDqsPO4IWUTqrgDx20RzRc%3D&reserved=0

The Draftsman is great, but the lines on the drawings would often get pressed down when the drawings were stored in a notebook and the graphs became hard to read after a short time of storage.

The inTACT kit from EASY tactile graphics looks cool because it has an eraser:
https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.easytactilegraphics.com%2Fintact-products%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C5ffc2daf149f45adf9ca08d58e78b9d6%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636571571512883736&sdata=nVdHD14JGOmQl4%2FZwUFqveQrDT6I7JxigKNKOiCW6fA%3D&reserved=0

The eraser would be very useful, especially because I often had to start all over again when I made a mistake on the Draftsman.

Does anyone have any suggestions for any tactile drawing kits?

Thanks!

Kevin
