Hi Shai,
There are a couple of ways to do this. I would recommend just using F5 to
create a preview. As you're working in OpenSCAD, you'll create a preview of
your model with F5. If you like that preview, you can render the object
with F6. The model will then be ready for exporting to STL, which you can
do with F7. The student should be able to enter each of those commands on
their own.

If you don't want to remember that F5, F6, F7 sequence, you can also access
commands from OpenSCAD's Design menu. Just tap Alt to get into the file
menu (this is true for most application on Windows), use the right arrow to
find the Design menu, press the down arrow to expand the menu, then arrow
down through the options. You should find Preview F5 and Render F6 in the
Design menu. It turns out the Export to STL command is actually in the File
menu, under Export.
