[NFB-Science] list of places to find accessible textbooks and courses

Hello,

I created a list of websites to find accessible courses and textbooks that
cover math, science and engineering. I've been doing a lot of self-study
lately, and wanted to share the resources I found, in case someone is also
doing self-study or is in college and needs accessible supplemental
materials.

The textbooks found on these websites are HTML based and freely available.

I've attached the websites to this email as a text file. It includes the
website name, the link, and a brief description of what can be found on the
website.

I can't verify that every textbook or course will be accessible, but I've
found most textbooks and courses on these sites to have alt text and
accessible math.

If you have a suggestion of something to add to the list, please let me
know.

Khan Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org
Free courses on math, science, history, etc. Covers subjects from k-12 to university. Exercises have alt text and accessible math.

open university: https://www.open.edu/openlearn/subject-information
Free courses on various subjects including math and science. The math in courses is presented as a text description. For example one half instead of 1/2. There is also alt text for images.

PreTeXt: https://pretextbook.org/gallery.html#catalog
List of books authored in the PreTeXt system. Most of the books are math and science related. I've checked some of the books, and found them to be accessible. 

openStax: https://openstax.org/subjects
I've used some of the physics and math books in college, and they were very accessible. There is detailed alt text and accessible math in all of the books.

Penn State ROAM: https://roam.libraries.psu.edu/resources
PSU open resources. Courses and textbooks, mostly science focused but has some math books. I'm working through a science course right now, and it has been accessible. There are long descriptions of data, maps, etc.

The Website that helped me in every college math course I took. Very well done and comprehensive math notes that go through every part of most low-level undergrad math courses. There is detailed alt text and accessible math for the notes, example exercises, and assignments. The reference sheets for things such as Laplace transforms are also accessible. The accessible version of the reference sheets are found within the notes, not under the cheat sheets tab.

I've found accessible math and engineering books on this site. There is not always alt text, but the books I've read have had accessible math. 

pressbooks: https://pressbooks.directory/
Directory of books made using the pressbooks platform. These books are free and open access, so some should be accessible.

BC open collection: https://collection.bccampus.ca/
Most of the books on this website were made using pressbooks. Mileage may vary with the math in these books. I've found that some present math as raw LaTeX. Additionally, the search page is a little bit odd. Search results for textbooks read as "undefined", and the only way to check the title is to click on the textbook. 

OER commons: https://oercommons.org/
Repository of online resources including textbooks and courses. Because these are OER, some of them should be accessible. They do pull from OpenStax and Libretexts and various other sources around the web.
