While there are nuggets of truth in what you say, people are still at
best nervous about this program. Home Makeover has been around
enough for people to have a good idea of the kind of things they do
and how they portray people.
In the past when they have done blind people they put all kinds of
things in the houses that we simply don't need. It is, after all a
TV program and they need to portray their subjects as needing all
kinds of help, help that they are willing to provide.
Their portrayal of blind people doesn't do us any good in the long
run. If people think we need specially constructed houses with all
kinds of amenities, it makes it more difficult for others of us to
get jobs, rent apartments and houses etc.
