[nfb-talk] I think they forgot to turn it on

Hi Dave and list,

To answer your question, I'm certain if I had been involved, things would be
worse (grin smile)! I'm starting to learn how to send my own audio files.

The problem is not those involved with the stream! One is doing the best
they can with what they have available! I'm certain good people are
involved including yourself and that in itself is a good thing! The problem
is streaming coventions aren't a high priority with the NFB. Equipment may
work at the home office but get it on the scene, forget it! This nonsense
of not getting the stream has been happening for a good 5 years or more
perhaps. I think more people would take advantage of it if it worked! It
is that plain and simple to me! The opposition not only streams their
convention live successfully every year, it is available on demand in its
intirity throughout the year! Anyone who can stand to hear it can do so!
I think we definitely need to put more of a priority to this than we have!
We certainly have a good track record when we put our mind to something! It
gets done! This is one of the things which needs to work much better than
it has! What is happening now isn't working or hasn't worked well!
Therefore, it is roop goldburg to me, why bother? I would like to be
bothered and if I can't listen at a particular time, I could listen later!
This is the age of the Iphone, and other smart phones where people can
listen where they are, on a bus, outside or heaven only knows where!
Perhaps Voice of the Nation's Blind should be a full time radio station
which sells time to those wishing to buy time to present something! Perhaps
it could evolve into being able to pay people to run the operation, what a
novel idea! I'm certain too the NFB could partner with various entaties to
achieve a more successful dependable stream! If various states can stream
their conventions, why can't the national do the same successfuly? I think
if it worked, you'd have many people listening whether at the convention
itself or whether at home or on the go! This definitely is one area where
the NFB hasn't done its job as well as it could be done! How cool it would
be to dial it up or download it from Newsline perhaps!

I wish I could wave a magic wand or have the expertise to fix things but I
don't! The fact of the matter is, how many people would listen is flawed
because the stream itself is flawed so if the whole world knows the stream
doesn't work, why bother?

I'll keep trying throughout the day, but I think your being at convention
would be a good time to address this issue especially when one considers the
rising costs of everything! If I could listen dependably, I could Email or
phone my state affiliate representative to tell him how I'd like him to vote
on certain matters! One could participate in this way and the NFB would be
available for all the world to hear if they wished! Our critics say we
aren't an open and above board organization! Therefore, some might say this
is why streaming isn't a priority!

All I am saying is we haven't done well in this area!

Jim
