[nfb-talk] Convention in Orlando for 5 years

Hi, all.

I agree with Michael. I do the same thing, i.e., I come in a day or two
before Seminar Day and get the lay of the hotel and if there's something of
interest in the area, I'll visit it.

I don't really care whether or not the banquet is on the last night of the
convention in the abbreviated schedule or whether it's on the day before the
last day in the longer format. Admittedly, the first time we tried the
shorter format, things were a bit rushed and chaotic but this time around,
there was only one event I missed because I hadn't been able to eat since
breakfast so elected to go to dinner rather than attend the event.

I've heard the same thing; it's getting harder and harder to get hotels to
agree to an entire convention week without raising rates beyond what we are
willing to accept. The only change I'd make would be to declare thatthat
between five and seven in the evening, no events would occur so everyone
would have a good two hours to eat a decent dinner. Other than that, I
thought this year's schedule was just about perfect for the shorter format.

Insofar as convention cities are concerned, I doubt that downtown Seattle
would have a large enough hotel to hold all of us. There are hotels near
SEATAC Airport that might but you all would complain that we were away from
everything. I don't think Portland has anything large enough for us to fit
in one hotel.

In any event, it's not worth dreaming about because the rates would be
prohibitively expensive up and down the West Coast. That's just the way the
cookie crumbles.

Mike

Actually, what I do is to arrive 2 days before what I call seminar Saturday.
It gives me a chance to explore the hotel and to do any other outside
activities I may want to do.

I actually prefer the banquet as the final event of convention. It makes a
very nice climax to a super week. Having the banquet followed by another
day of general sessions is very anticlimactic as far as I'm concerned.

I believe the reason we're changing to this newer abbreviated schedule has
something to do with being able to attract more hotels, as I recall.
