[nfb-talk] orlando attractions

Dear Peter,

I guess that it is not such a big deal for most people, but then everyone is
perhaps not as smart as you are.
I just want people to think about it before they place themselves in a
situation where they are not considering their dog and all that goes along
with it, and their own desirers.
No one wants to get into a theme park, spend allot of money for tickets and
then find themselves in a situation where they have to call for medical
assistance for there dog , get arrested or any other negative thing that
could happen.
Dogs can be refused to go on many of the rides because they can not be
properly restrained in the ride vehicles when in motion. That is why there
are height requirements for people and children on the rides because The
safety harnesses won't fit.

I know some people who work for Disney and they have told me about some
incidents there.
One guy tied his dog up while he took a ride and the dog was taken and
turned in at the lost and found while he was gone. He got a ticket for
leaving his dog unattended. Employees can not be asked to watch your dog
for you. You must bring some one else to do that for you or board them at
the kennels at the park.
One person left their dog with someone for a ride and the person's little
boy fed the dog a chocolate candy bar while he was on the ride. The dog
almost died, but only hours later with no clue to what was wrong with the
dog. The vet bill was over $2,000.
Having a attitude of "I can take my dog anywhere, anytime," may sound
great but is it risky, foolish or just our muchcho coming out.
I know many guide dog users who will not take their dog on escalators for
fear of getting their dogs toes pinched. I can see and understand this fear
I know that my dog Jack is trained to do it, but I still think about this
possibility every time Jack and I take an escalator instead of an elevator,
especially at the airports and shopping malls.
All I am meaning to do is to raise people's awareness of their options.
I do not have control over their actions. I just don't want them to spend
allot of money and get into a theme park and then realize that having their
dog there may not be the best idea.
You , and everybody else, who uses a guide dog can make your own choices,
the dog can't.

David Evans, NFBF and GD Jack.
