Good morning, Angelina.

I am pleased to hear of your impending success in obtaining a degree. While
I am not currently employed and have not had the success in this area of my
life I would like to have, I'll share some concepts that might be helpful.

The things you are already planning to do sound like good steps. You will
need to find a way to tell your story in a manner that convinces the person
who will hire you that you are the right person for the job and have the
right skills to do the job. I don't know if there is an exact formula for
this.

You will also have to be concerned with the expectations game both of
yourself and of prospective employers. This can be a very thorny issue for
those of us who are blind, and we may not always be conscious of all the
factors at play. Sometimes it may feel like trying to be a long shot horse
race winner. But each success hopefully betters the odds for the next
person.

Again I would say I don't have al the answers here, but I hope this message
will provoke fruitful discussion and reflection on this topic and lead to
improvement in many of our lives.

I wish you well on your future job search and career.

Subject: [nfb-talk] Seeking tips for obtaining employment after college

Good evening all,
As a soon-to-be grad from college in December, I'm starting to put serious
thoughts into what I need to do in hopes I'll be able to find work. I'm
planning on using my career center, job fairs on campus or networking to
find possible employment opportunities.

For those who are working: what tips could you offer blind students who are
looking for employment? Are there parts of the process you wish you did
differently? Was blindness a big barrier to finding employment?
Thanks for any thoughts or advice.
