[nfb-talk] Here he comes...

Good Evening Everyone,
First of all, I hear the anger and the fear right now on this list. I still am interested in finding out how we can work together for the well being of people with visual impairments?

One thing: I do not feel that asking Trump's Daughter to fulfill the functions of the First Lady will encourage people to practice incest. President Truman let his daughter fulfill some of the functions of the First Lady. The reason was that Truman's wife was very shy.
I do think that insulting each other does not serve any purpose. I, for my part, try to understand how it could come this way. I would like to understand Trump supporters. I do not think the answers are going to be easy. I, for instance have a question. I once had a student, who simply could not learn to read. In the olden days, this young lady would have worked well in a manufacturing job. She will have difficulties with jobs in technology as she has to read certain things. I do not know where my student is now or if she has a good job. I am wondering what we can do for people like my student? I also would like to know what we can do with those displaced workers?

I also think that it is interesting that the Republicans gained so many more seats in Congress.

I really think that the people who call themselves liberal or progressive need to reach out to more people. Obviously many people feel disenfranchised. I know that Hillary's comment of the "basket of Deplorables" was just a comment. However, it made many people feel misunderstood. I, for my part, would like to reach out to people in order to find commonality instead of more division.

Let me reiterate that I did not vote for Trump. I really would like to see us work together for the common good of blind people.

Best Regards,

Marianne

Well, I don't know how old you are, but Mr. Carter was not really a good president. He was a nice man, but a bad president. Bill was a decent president, but kind of a slimey guy, and Obama, in my opinion, would have been a good president if he had been allowed. He was stopped at every turn from doing anything worth while by those who refused to see past the nose on their own face. I remember when the government shut down a few years ago, it was mainly over the "Affordable Care Act" and the budget. Congress fussed and fought and changed the Affordable Care act until it became what it is today. They wanted to be sure that it was crappy enough so that when people remember they'll say That Obama Care... etc, etc. If the original bill had passed, and congress wasn't so egotistical and selfish, we'd be in a better place.
The new president however did not have to be a democrat. We had good choices. We had good decent, worth while republican choices, but America did not vote them in in the primaries. They wanted shock and entertainment.
We'll see how they feel in a few months.
