Hello:
I solved the check writing problem by setting up all my bills on auto pay.
If I need to write a check for anything else I use my online banking bill
pay option which I can do myself. You enter all the information by your
computer and your bank sends out the check for you. I have used this and it
worked out perfectly. I have not had to ask any sighted person to write a
check for me in over three years.
As for paperwork at medical appointments, I let them know when I schedule
the appointment that I will need assistance filling out paperwork so they
can schedule extra time and someone to do this. If they can send it to me
by email or have a website where I can fill out the forms myself then that
is what I prefer. However, when there is no other option than to have
office staff help me fill it out, asking ahead of time helps them plan for
it.

My husband and I write checks on the typewriter, if you have access to one,
or I have used a check writing guide. Others use Quicken, or similar
software on the computer.

Not all banks are that dependable. I went to my bank, in my office building
and I think I needed help writing a check. They said they could not write
it for me.
I had to ask one of my co workers. I have a few, that I have worked with
for years, that I trust.
Also your Lions club might be able to help or your church.

I most definitely would not with a capital N, trust them with any
confidential information.
A good place to check for an assistant/driver are churches. These days,
maybe just me, I would not trust Craig's list or the paper either. Check
around with the people you know who might know someone. If you can find a
few, you can develop a pool to call on.
If you have very personal information you need to divulge, make an
appointment with personnel at your bank.
Hope this helps.

Hi all,
I have recently lost my eyesight. I am thinking about finding a paid sighted
assistant to help me here and there occasionally. Could someone please
recommend a way to find an assistant for hire?
Unfortunately I don't have any relatives in this country (I live in
Washington state). My friends can help me sometimes, but they are all busy,
and I would like to find a reliable way of solving small problems, like
filling out a form or walking me to a new unfamiliar place.
I don't need assistant's services often; perhaps an hour every week or even
every two weeks. I can afford paying a reasonable amount of money for this.
I tried craigslist in my area, but I only saw professionals like dentist's
assistants offering their servies.
And also do you guys think is it ok to trust a paid assistant some sensitive
information, like my SSN?
(This is my first message here, so please forgive me if it's not the right
place to discuss such a question).
Thanks
Tony
