[nfb-talk] Ham Radio

Among HF transceivers, the newer Kenwood equipment such as the TS480, TS590,
TS890 and TS990 can provide the most speech feedback. Some other rigs can
provide readout of frequency and mode, but not much else. I use a Yaesu
FT950 transceiver which has a really large number of controls and can give
you an indication of what's going on with various beeps. I sometimes
interface it with a computer when I want to read or control frequency, or
set some of its menu parameters. Jim Shaffer, KE5AL, has written a Windows
program for controlling certain transceivers. And Rob Santangelo, K6DQ, has
developed custom boxes called Hampods which provide readout of many
functions for several types of ham equipment and accessories. A talking
wattmeter from LDG Electronics has gone back into production after a lapse
of 10 years.
I don't keep track of VHF equipment much, but know that the newer Kenwood
transceivers have a lot of accessibility built in. Several of the low-cost
Chinese-built transceivers also have speech, but I don't know how easy they
are to use.

Hello:

I'm looking to communicate with blind amateur radio operators about what 2
meter and hf radios are accessible.

Please contact me off-list.

Thanks.
