Second the Shark recommendation. Not only are their vacuums great, especially for the money, their customer service is second to none. I had to have mine replaced when it suction got severely lessened at about three years into the five-year warranty. They tried replacing a part (at no cost), and when that didn’t work, they did a full machine replacement, no fuss, no third degree, super efficient and friendly. The Shark is as good as anything else I’ve owned, and I like it much better than the Kirby I once bought at roughly five times the price.
