[NFB-Talk] Any Experience with a Safe?

Pistol safes often come with both an accessible keypad and a backup key opener. These safes are small, but large enough to hold folded documents and other small valuables. Most safes have a way to either exchange batteries or the backup key option. One might look for a document safe like those hotels use. Be sure to check out redundant opening systems and make sure they are accessible nonvisually. Costco and office supply stores sell such safes. I bet Amazon does as well.

Oh, one more thing. One can set the code for a number pad opener, but the process of determining the code may not be accessible. You may need assistance to set the code.

Best!

Hi Jim,

I unfortunately don’t have much info to share with you as I’m looking for the same thing, has anyone given you any suggestions or ideas? I have come across a few safes that have an accessible digital keypad to open them, I just get nervous about how to access it if the batteries are dead, or if they leak or, well if anything happens to that digital keypad. While some do still have rubbery physical buttons, many others are just touch screen and as you mention, those likely would not be accessible. Anyway, I’d be happy to share any info I come across if you’d do the same? Normally I don’t mind buying a product and trying it out, but with something like a safe, well, that’s logistically much more challenging. :)

Thanks,

Steve

Greetings,

It has been recommended that I look into something where I can keep all important paperwork and other important things that are either valuable or worth keeping. So much of what I have now is electronic, but I still have things I would like to keep.

At first, I thought of something like a file cabinet. Then, someone suggested a small safe. I’m certainly not opposed to this idea, and I actually think it is a good one.

I’m just wondering if anyone have experience working with them. Mainly, how easy are they to open, or how easy is it to set and use combinations? I’ve heard that many of them are digital now and may not be very accessible.

If there are any particular ones that you like or recommend, please let me know. It might be good to get one sooner than later and keep all of my things organized.

Thanks much.

Jim
