Around here it's either paid for with plastic, or we buy it online. We hardly ever carry cash on us these days though Mary likes to have a small amount in case the paratransit company's Go Card readers malfunction as one did yesterday. I make sure the check numbers are in my records and check with our bank often to make sure they have cleared. Also, I have learned that for me, it is important, when I send a check, to give that person or organization receiving it a heads up that it is coming, and I ask them to please inform me when they have received it. This way, if a check gets lost in the mail, we can deal with the problem quickly.
