<html><head><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></head><body dir="auto">All, <div><br></div><div>Because the use of fireworks at Disney is not a blindness related issue, I am guessing the original sender simply signed a petition and shared it with an email address book, rather than target sending the email with the request to sign the petition.</div><div><br></div><div>Several have asked why stop daily fireworks shows at Disney, I will assume that those questions are sincere and attempt to answer. Fireworks are bad for the environment, are distressing to domesticated animals and some humans particularly those who have been in war, and are costly. While the petition doesn’t mention the cost factor, the other two reasons are mentioned. I often think of how many children we could feed with the fireworks show on 4th of July in my town. Thousands of dollars are blown up in a matter of 20- to 30 minutes. Thousands of dollars can feed or house many people. I am not suggesting that all celebrations that are bad for the environment, distressing to others, or expensive be discontinued. I am only sharing my musings about what might be more impactful ways to use those funds. I’d really appreciate it if my city would fix some of the roads and sidewalks rather than have a fireworks show. </div><div><br></div><div>One person mentioned that many of Disney’s shows are CGI, which would not have the same environmental impact and likely not be as costly, so the petition might have not have the impact the petition creator hopes. One of the suggestions in the petition is to use drones. Some countries use drones in their New Year’s Eve celebrations. The drone formation flying is favored over fireworks by my son. Fireworks have brought joy to families for years and years. One thing we always need to keep in mind is that the world is not required to cater to us because we are blind. Are we entitled to the same accessibility and the same independence of life as our sighted counter parts? Yes, we are, but that does not mean that if something bothers us or our dog the world has to change. Sometimes if something bothers us, we just should not go. Many times, it is us that needs to take responsibility for our own actions.
