    <p>Well, if the culture is changing, I'm glad. The example you gave
      strikes me as a little weak. How about all appliances having to be
      accessible, not just medical ones?</p>
    <p>We need to stop thinking it is better for us to adapt to society
      than for society to adapt to us. At a basic level, That's not
      true. It can be true sometimes when the cost for  society to adapt
      is too high. The fundamental point here is that there is nothing
      wrong with trying to change society. That, in fact, is a good
      thing.<br>

    <p>There is nothing wrong with asking for the moon. What you can do
      is to fight for all appliances to be made accessible. and if you
      have to, settle for just medical appliances.<br>

          society to accommodate our needs while we work toward that

                time, Marc Maurer, went to Washington and testified
                against accessible money. Imagine what the NFB could
                have accomplished if all that energy had been devoted to
                fighting for something instead of against something.
                Think about the amount of additional energy that could
                have been generated had the NFB been fighting *for*
                things that would have made the lives of blind people
                better.</span><br>

              <span>I know what some people on this list are thinking,
                what they are going to say. We can never know for sure
                what would have happened had the NFB taken the other
                side on these issues. But that's why I brought up the
                life story of Judy Heumann. She wouldn't have have said
                that we're asking for too much. She wouldn't have been
                afraid of what would happen if we failed.</span><br>
