Fellow Federationists and Friends of the NFB of Utah!

May is now upon us and the NFB of Utah is gearing up for an outstanding
Summer of fun and growth! We have the opportunity to seize the momentum from
our outstanding April convention and we need all of our active members to
actively recruit and invite new members to an upcoming chapter meeting or
division activity.

All of our chapters will be holding meetings this month and I have listed a
schedule along with a contact person's email for each chapter below.

Every day I get the opportunity to represent the NFB of Utah as your
President is both a privilege and an honor. I would like to address some
concerns with regards to one of the speakers who spoke at our recent
convention. During a presentation on the Friday afternoon general session
titled, Discrimination in Employment, opinions were shared by the speaker
that were of his own viewpoint and were not opinions ever expressed by
members of the NFB of Utah. The NFB of Utah has a good relationship with the
Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Director Steve
Winn is a professional, fair, and thoughtful leader. It is also a testament
to the goodwill between the NFB of Utah and DSBVI because of the DSBVI staff
members who have chosen to become members of the NFB of Utah. All of us
enjoy working for and with Director Steve Winn to help foster successful
training in blindness skills and bridging gaps to successful employment
outcomes for all blind and low vision individuals. I trust this will ease
any concerns out amongst the blind community and I urge you to contact
myself or Director Steve Winn with any lingering concerns you may have.

Our National Convention is fast approaching and registration is now open at
www.nfb.org. If you want to receive the $200 stipend from the NFB of Utah,
you will need to register and purchase your banquet ticket, then send me a
copy of the receipt. If you want to ride the bus being provided by the NFB
of Utah, you will need to contact Barbie Elliott. All of this must be
completed no later than May 31.

I very much hope to see many of you at our national family reunion in Las
Vegas July 7-12, it is a convention you will not want to miss!

As always, I am truly honored to be your President and I look forward to
seeing you at an upcoming May chapter meeting!

President Everette Bacon
