[Nfb-web] Accessible SSH Clients

Peter,

I have used both the Cygwin and Putty programs for SSH access. Here are some notes:

Cygwin:
- requires sighted assistance to get installed
+ offers many UNIX commands on the windows platform
+ behaves well with JAWS, correctly reading most text that is output to the screen.

PuTTY:
+ Can either be installed or run in "portable" mode
+ Connection configuration screen is accessible
- Terminal window sort of works, but if the end of the buffer is reached, it is easier to use the "clear" command and start with a fresh screen, else JAWS re-reads the entire contents of the screen. Also, it is necessary to switch JAWS into reading all changes to the screen "INSERT+S".

For the most part, I find myself lately using PuTTY.

I'm not sure what you need it for, but I have yet to find one of these programs that works well with an editor on the remote system. For making changes to config files, I generally scp them to my local machine, make the changes, and scp to the remote host.

HTH,

Tony

Hello everyone,

I will be using a virtual private server that can be administered via an SSH client. I thought I would enquire to see what SSH clients folks are using that will work with JAWS 12.0. By the way is Windows Power Shell an SSH client? Your recommendations will be very much appreciated.

And the air will resound with hosannas to greet you
On the shore will be found gallant Irishmen to greet you."
