Hi Dean:
I'm not sure if you've gotten a chance to speak to rob regarding Alt as a productivity tool, however I'm guessing that from your message below that you've had some past negative experience regarding the product. I know that Rob Nevin from U-R-Able would be happy to address any concerns you may have regarding the viability of Alt in a work environment.
During the summer of 2012 a team from the NFB R&D committee completed a 4 month deep review of ALT. Our conclusions support ALT for it's design purpose and workflow acceleration. My personal experience from working with Rob is that he is a very thoughtful man with some great notions on how to get the blind back in to gainful employment positions. I don't know about you, but $1500 is a drop in the bucket when compared to having the necessary tools for obtaining and maintaining full-time employment. Thus far, I've found Alt to be an invaluable tool in my daily workflow.
As for Alt being less tested, it seems more productive in my opinion to inquire on the facts rather than making a broad assumption on a product and negative implications regarding an individual on a public list.
Finally, I would be happy to answer any questions regarding the use of Alt off-list. For this wishing to contact Rob directly, his email is: rob at u-r-able.com.

Best Regards:

I'm sure alt has some benefits, but I have to wonder who this guy thinks is going to pay for it and why. Blind people are complaining about the price of jaws, why should they get excited about something more expensive and less tested? Dean
