From erodney at nfb.org Tue Jan 6 19:56:36 2026 From: erodney at nfb.org (Rodney, Erin) Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2026 19:56:36 +0000 Subject: [NFB-Web] Webform Values, Text, and Descriptions Message-ID: Hello Coordinators, I recently received a question from a website coordinator and thought it would be good information to share with the community. Also, does anyone have anything else they would add to this explanation? Question I want to modify one of my webform questions. But when I'm clicking on that particular element to edit it, I am greeted with multiple text areas to input specific options in each one. On my old Drupal website there was only one text area where I could simply paste all the options. Is there a way to switch back to that? Answer Drupal 10 allows for customization of the Select, Checkboxes, and Radios elements. Option Value This text is stored in Drupal when the form is submitted. It can be used for JavaScript, exports, custom emails, conditional logic, and APIs. The option value is read by the website and is not visible to the user. Option Text This text is displayed on the form for the user. By default, it will appear in email confirmations and data exports. Screen readers announce the option text first. Option Description The description is displayed on the form for the user. It is not used by the website, but it can provide additional details about the option. Screen readers announce the option description last. Note: Any information entered in the option value field will automatically populate in the option text field. You do not need to complete both fields unless you want them to appear differently. Example I created a form where people could select a type of sandwich. For the veggie sandwich, I entered: Option Value: Veggie sandwich Option Text: Veggie Sandwich (Spinach, tomato, cucumber, red onion, house-roasted multi-colored peppers, avocado, and herb mayo on 9-grain) Description: This sandwich is vegetarian.
