Hi everyone,
We wanted to pass along an opportunity for anyone who is blind or low
vision to participate in this opportunity.
Perkins School for the Blind has a Career Launch and Career Launch Plus
program. They are adapting to a virtual component and need people to help
test-drive their platforms. An honorarium is included. Please see below a
message from them on how to participate. Please feel free to spread widely
with anyone who may be eligible and available!
Best,
AAPD
We are now developing a virtual version of the program and we need help:
- We are looking for 10 people to help us by participating in a
week-long “test drive” of selected portions of our virtual training program.
- Expert instructors will be teaching portions of our new virtual
training program – including customer success-focused job skills, general
career readiness skills, and best practices for working remotely – via
group classes, one-on-one sessions, simulation exercises, and independent
work.
- Participants who complete the week will have new skills, new
community, and will receive an honorarium of $300 for their time and
insights.
- To be eligible, you must
- Be 18 to 35 years old.
- Be blind or visually impaired.
- Have a high school degree or more.
- Be available from 9 am to 5 pm in their local time, Monday, June
8th through Friday, June 12th. Interactive classes will be scheduled to
occur in those hours.
- Have internet access.
- Have a quiet place to work.
- Have your own computer and assistive technology. (We will do a
short assessment with interested people to ensure they have everything
needed.)
- Be committed to bringing a learning mindset and to providing us
your insights and recommendations during and after the “test drive”.
If you have any consumers that might be interested, please have them reach
out to me at deana.criess at perkins.org. Potential participants will need to
fill out a brief survey and complete a quick tech assessment to ensure they
could successfully complete the week's programming. Time is of the essence,
the test drive is just a few weeks away. *That means we need to hear from
all interested candidates by 5 PM EST tomorrow, Friday May 22nd. *
Thank you for your continued service during the pandemic. Now, more than
ever, these adults need our support in gaining new opportunities.
REMINDER: The DRBA listserv is intended to facilitate open discussion and
sharing of ideas. Members need to feel confident that their discussions
will not be distributed beyond the group unnecessarily. PLEASE CONSULT WITH
THE SENDER(S) BEFORE FORWARDING ANY LISTSERV DISCUSSIONS BEYOND THE DRBA
GROUP.
DONATE: The DRBA is a valuable free resource to its members. But the DRBA
does have expenses for management, web and listserv services. PLEASE DONATE
TODAY any amount you wish Online at http://GiveToSU.com Select “Burton
Blatt Institute Fund” from the “My gift is designated to” drop down menu
and indicate “DRBA” in the “Gift is to be used for” box.
BRIEF BANK: Are you sharing briefs, interrogatories, decisions or other
non-confidential resources on this listserv? ARCHIVE them for all present
and future members by logging in to the DRBA website, going to the MEMBERS
AREA and selecting ONLINE DOCUMENT DATABASE for further instructions.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
