Bio:
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Maurice Atkins was raised with strong values
centered on clear communication, accountability, and respect for others.
These foundations, reinforced by meaningful mentorship and faith-based
guidance, shaped his professional approach to instruction and leadership.
After high school, Maurice was in pursuit of a career as a truck driver
when he was diagnosed with Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, a rare
condition that resulted in significant vision loss. This experience led him
to develop deep, firsthand ability in blindness skills, adaptive
techniques, and assistive technology.
Maurice pursued formal training and professional certifications through
World Services for the Blind, where he now serves as an Assistive
Technology Instructor. In this role, he equips blind and visually impaired
individuals with practical technology skills that support independence,
employment, and lifelong learning.
Committed to developing others, Maurice brings both professional rigor and
lived experience to his work. Together with his wife and children, he
continues to lead, mentor, and support individuals as they build confidence
and independence.

We invite all those who are seeking gainful employment to join us for this
information session. There will be time provided to ask any questions you

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination,
and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
