[NFBA-Phoenix] Membership

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Several months ago, our chapter discussed the opportunity for chapter members to stay in contact with each other. Sharing a scaled down version of the chapter roster was viewed as a means for us to benefit from the communities that we form by being a member of the chapter.

During that initial chapter business meeting, we discussed the possibility of sharing email and phone numbers with the members of our chapter. Those present at the meeting were enthusiastic about the idea.

This had been done in the past and was very much appreciated.

Each subsequent meeting prior to the date in which it was finally sent out, an announcement was made to let me, or Jordan know if a member wanted to use alternate contact info or wished to be excluded. One person expressed an interest in having their email omitted not because they were concerned by the prospect of sharing it, but they were not as good at answering emails and wanted to be sure if someone reached out to them that it would be done by phone.

We do not send out home address information.

If you personally have a preference as to the way in which you want other members of the chapter to be able to reach you then please let me know. The next updated chapter roster will be sent out later this month.

in addition, each person who receives a new chapter welcome email from me is asked for their permission to be included and asked to provide the email and phone they wish to share.

I am sharing all this with you to be sure that we are all on the same page with the process that has been taken to respect the wishes of the membership. Every chapter handles this differently,

my chapter participation has always included a way in which members can communicate with each other. The first roster I was given was a large print list in Ohio and the most basic was a simple bulleted list in email.

For Myself, my personal cell phone and email are all over the internet for blind people to be able to reach out to me from across the country. I am okay with establishing boundaries and have not had a problem of any kind with people crossing those boundaries.

It’s good to be able to communicate with each other. For many in our chapter, this chapter is their only connection to the blindness community, and I am happy to foster a bond through our shared membership in a great organization.

If you want to talk more about this, I am happy to chat. Going on vacation for a week but will be around this weekend.

Good morning,
It was no problem at all. I am glad that one already exists, and as Rachel said, it is good to have formats that all are able to access. I would like to present something for consideration. When providing the members list, we should exclude personal information such as phone numbers and email addresses. This information should be reserved for the board and chairs of the membership committee, not to all members.

Just some thoughts I had.

I appreciate that you did this however we already had an Excel spreadsheet of this. It wasn’t immediately sent out or perhaps it was can’t remember because a number of people don’t have access to Excel spreadsheets. Thank you so much for taking time to do this either way it was very kind and thoughtful.

I saw that the members roster was sent to the Phoenix list a few weeks back. I had some free time and created an Excel document incase it helps in any way. Please find attached the members roster in an Excel file. The first tab is for the entire roster, and the second tab is for the board members. I can arrange the board members by position if needed.
Please note that Felipe appears twice in the roster with 2 different names, but the same phone number and email address is listed. I can also fix that if needed.
In the worksheet for the entire roster there is a cell assigned to membership status (current or not current), and a cell for the date dues were paid. This may be a great way to track membership, and status as it worked well for me when I was handling membership for the SC affiliate.
I can add additional tabs for committees and anything else that may be helpful.
I just wanted to provide this document incase you would find it beneficial.
