The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back!

Subject: RE: Requesting to Speak at the June 2024 National Federation of the
Blind PHX Chapter Meeting
Hi Jordan:
Thank you for the opportunity to speak to your group. We are very eager to
get this information out.
Here is the document I referenced regarding accessibility of the Valley
Metro website and app. Since it is so technical (at least to me) I wasn't
sure everyone would be interested.
I wanted to address the comment about drivers and their waving off the
payment at the farebox. While I don't want to excuse a driver for being
disrespectful or patronizing but a couple of things may be going on. It has
happened to me many times and it drives me crazy:
* The farebox may not be working - as I mentioned the equipment is
old!
* He/she may be behind schedule
* They usually do it when I have a field trip and I specifically want
each student to learn how to board and the driver doesn't want to take the
time
Anyway, the new fare set up should address this. There will be a learning
curve of course but at least the equipment will be working.
Thank you!
