Prayers were offered by meeting participants.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Presidential Report-Mike let us know how proud he is of our chapter for showing up and being good representatives of Phoenix. He thanked us for a successful picnic.<o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Secretary’s Report</b> - Business Meeting Minutes, September 2022 <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Sharonda Goode moved to table the meeting minutes to next month. Vicki Hodges and Rodney Fletcher seconded. The motion carried.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Treasurer’s Report</b> – October 2022 <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Vicki moved to accept the report. Monica Nunez seconded. The Motion carried.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Presidential Release 520, 10-1-22 recap : Mike noted that the release took place in Jackson, MS and we hope to have the President travel here sometime in the future. We have had movement on our Accessible Technology bill in congress. Share BEAM activities through nfb.org. Rachel shared activities happening around employment including a job fair and seminars. </b><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Legislative Report National/affiliate – Mike spoke about being sure to get registered for the upcoming election.</b><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Membership Committee</b> : Monica, 2<sup>nd</sup> Vice President and Vicki, Co-Chair<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Vicki reported that they will be calling members to fill in the blanks for the membership roster. She also reported that a couple of people mentioned wanting to join the chapter who were at the picnic. They will continue reaching out to them. Monica reminded people to pay their dues to be ready for the chapter elections in November.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Donna Silba, Treasurer reviewed the membership roster for 2022to update people on who is eligible to vote in November. This list included those who have paid through 2023. They are also eligible to vote. 2023 dues must be paid by Jan 1 to serve on the board.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Nominating Committee Report: Sharonda Goode, Chair reported the slate as Jordan Moon for President, Mike Smith for 1 Vice President, Sharonda Good for 2 Vice President, Rachel Kuntz for Secretary, Donna Silba for Treasurer, Vicki Hodges for Board Member, Tom Johnson for Board Member. Members can nominate anyone from the floor. Those who are nominated must be present to be considered. It is good to speak with them before nominating them to ensure that they want to run for the position.<o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Fundraising Committee</b> -: Mike spoke about getting ready to buy fudge for our friends and family. Sales will begin in early November. Everybody loves fudge.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Technology Committee: Joe Goode, Chair had no report. If interested in being part of the committee send him an email.</b><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Picnic Wrap-up and Christmas Party (Social and outreach Committee report) <o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Mike complimented the committee for a great picnic. Rachel thanked everyone for helping in every way possible. Everyone really stepped up to lend a hand and for that we are all grateful. Send suggestions and ideas to Rachel. We gave our left over food to our community who were in need at the park. Nothing went to waste. People loved the location for the picnic. We had over 60 people in attendance. <o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Rachel made a motion to hold the 2023 chapter Picnic at Margaret T Hance Park in the West Ramada in early April provided there is space available. Monica Nunez seconded. The motion carried.<o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Christmas Party Plans: Mike spoke about the urgency of finding a location for the party. Monica, joy Harris, and Cindy Garfio agreed to research a place to hold the party. Rachel agreed to collect the names of anyone who might be in need of a little help this holiday season. Send the suggestion to her by November 20. She will maintain privacy and provide the necessary information to the appointed committee in late November. Cindy G. recommended that we reach out to the youth program coordinator at SAAVI for a family to support.<o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Sharonda moved that we allocate $100 for incidental expenses for the Christmas party. Monica seconded. The motion carried.<o:p></o:p></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>State Division and committee updates: Mark Feliz, President of East Valley, invited people to attend one of two accessible voting machine demonstrations and information sessions presented by the Maricopa County Recorder’s office. They are taking place at the October East Valley chapter meeting and at SAAVI. </b><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>New Business<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>BEAM: Rachel is looking for volunteers to help present on Oct. 19 at 12:30 PM during White Cane Awareness activities with the VA. The topic is the freedom that comes from using the white cane. Emanuel Caddy gave a quick overview of how to use Microsoft Teams to join the VA conference. Mike invited all members to send in ideas for additional BEAM activities. Sharonda announced that she is seeking four volunteers to share their story about blindness to her group meeting held each Saturday. She will provide more details at a later date. Reach out to her if interested.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Emanuel invited people to join the State of Arizona transportation committee to add our voice to ensure that the committee hears from the blind in our community. They have an email list and regular meetings. Mark Schmidt and Jordan will discuss this further and report back to us. Joy mentioned that she was interested in the committee.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Phoenix Seminar – January 17. Mike invited everyone to participate.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Philosophy –Why is it important for us to donate to the federation? – Rachel led the discussion. Members offered many valuable reasons to give including the need to continue doing the great work of the chapter, changing lives through our conventions, and achieving things that we never thought possible like sky diving.
