Dear East Valley,
The National Federation of the Blind Phoenix Seminar is coming up fast! If you are going to this event and would like to volunteer to help, please let me know. We are needing members to gather possible new member information and answer any questions that people may have about the National Federation of the Blind, the Phoenix seminar events, and or any other help you can give. We would like to get phone numbers and emails in order to do follow up. Call me or reply to this email if you are interested. We also need people to go to the appointments in their districts! Please, if you can possibly take some time out of your day to advocate for NFBA legislation that will eliminate yet even more obstacles for parents and students, please help.

Garret Mooney has volunteered to show anyone who would like to know, how to tie a tie. If any of the guys are interested, bring your tie to the chapter meeting and learn from a pro between 12pm and 12:30pm.

We have a lot of fun things planned for tomorrow, including a few surprises and a presentation on the EYERA glasses from Debi Chatfield.
Call if you have any questions.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Megan Homrighausen

National Federation Of The Blind Principles

1. Itis respectable to be blind. It’s okay to be blind. Being blind issomething that we need not feel troubled or embarrassed about, concerned aboutor emotionally exhausted over. It’s okay to be blind.
2. The real problem of blindness is not the absence of vision but isthe social misconceptions and stereotypes that exist about blindness. It is not the physical absence of eye sight but it is what society has come tobelieve about our blindness. We reject the misconceptions that society has andwe accept that the physical absence of our sight is not the big problem.
3. With proper training and opportunity the average blind person cando the average job in the average place of work.
4. Blindnessis simply one of many human characteristics, like being tall or being short, being big or small, being bright or average. Blindness is simply one of many
characteristics.
5. Blindnesscan be reduced to the level of an inconvenience or physical nuisance.
6. Webelieve in the effectiveness of alternative non visual techniques.
7. Ifwe want equal rights we need to accept equal responsibility.
