Hello East Valley Chapter,
Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were filled with love, laughter and joy!
The East Valley Chapter will now meet at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center located at 655 East Southern Avenue, Tempe Arizona 85282.

Please don't forget that we will now meet from 12:30pm to 3pm. This is due to the Pyle Center closing to clean and get ready for their events for the next day. We have a very special guest Richard Sorey, Director Of Blind And Deaf Services who will be speaking to us. Richard will be talking and presenting to us about blind services and plans for the future. We will also be talking about the waiting list that still exists in order to receive services.
To all new members visitors and or anyone who would like to join us. After our meeting we will be going to Serrano's, which has a wide variety of Mexican food.The address to Serrano's Mexican Food Restaurant is 6445 South Rural Road, Tempe Arizona 85283. Our members will travel there by Dial-A-Ride, Uber or Lyft. People usually schedule their rides to go home between 6pm and 6:30pm. 

Don't forget that dues are due. If you have not paid your dues or would like to know if you are current please contact Carol Scharlet or Megan Homrighausen.

National Federation Of The Blind Principles

1. Itis respectable to be blind. It’s okay to be blind. Being blind issomething that we need not feel troubled or embarrassed about, concerned aboutor emotionally exhausted over. It’s okay to be blind.
2. The real problem of blindness is not the absence of vision but isthe social misconceptions and stereotypes that exist about blindness. It is not the physical absence of eye sight but it is what society has come tobelieve about our blindness. We reject the misconceptions that society has andwe accept that the physical absence of our sight is not the big problem.
3. With proper training and opportunity the average blind person cando the average job in the average place of work.
4. Blindnessis simply one of many human characteristics, like being tall or being short,being big or small, being bright or average. Blindness is simply one of many
characteristics.
5. Blindnesscan be reduced to the level of an inconvenience or physical nuisance. 
6. Webelieve in the effectiveness of alternative non visual techniques.
7. Ifwe want equal rights we need to accept equal responsibility.
