Greetings,
Our legislative advocacy continues with a need to urge the members of
the Arizona Legislature to pass S.B. 2456. The language in this bill
reauthorizes the Arizona Schools for the Deaf and Blind (ASDB) to
continue function and fulfill its mission of educating deaf and blind
students. Without this piece of legislation the schools future
financial support and continuance are at risk.
The National Federation of the Blind of Arizona is asking for this
legislation to be passed without amendments that restrict the school,
or that impose conditions requiring it to open the school to students
that do not have “sensory” disability.
This is a call to action to write members of the Senate Government
Committee, where the bill has been assigned to, and the Senate
Education Committee, where the bill should have been assigned to.
We are asking for the bill to get a fair hearing as soon as possible.
The committee members and their email addresses are listed below.
A sample email might say:
Dear Senator ______
As a member of the National Federation of the Blind of Arizona, I am
writing to request for SB 2456 to be given a hearing as soon as
possible. I also ask that you support this legislation, without
amendments, to guarantee the continuation of the Arizona Schools for
the Deaf and Blind, so the schools can fulfill its mission of
educating deaf and blind students in Arizona.
Thank you,
xxxxxxx
