Hello Nicolas and NFBC Members,

We recently had a conference call for all Chapter Presidents.  Last Friday we were on a conference call with Kevan Worley in regards to the Louis Braille Coin sale.  While on the call, he said if you need coins now or in the next couple of weeks you should purchase them through the National Center.  He also stated if you did not need them til late October or later then you should purchase the coins through the US Mint.

That sounds great Serena.  Remember to order the coins directly from the US
Mint so that we sell the most coins possible.

Subject: [Nfbc-info] Pledge to sell coins!

90% of America's blind children need us!!

I just pledged to sell twenty Louis Braille commemorative coins by November
1st!

We all know what a severe deficiency there is in Braille literacy in
our country and that we don't always have the support of VI teachers,
Rehabilitation Specialists, and even sometimes parents.  If the blind
of this nation are to receive the indespensable tool of braille, it is
up to us!  Just think what $8 million will do nationwide for braille
literacy!!

But this $8 million is not going to fall out of the sky...we must sell
all 400,000 coins to reach that toatal and the clock is ticking.  Any
coins left unsold at the end of the year will be melted down and those
precious funds will melt away with them!

I have personally purchased 3 coins: one as a gift for my
coin-collecting father, a nice one to keep for myself, and a third to
carry with me at all times to show to anyone and everyone who will
look at it and listen to the stark reality of braille literacy in our
nation today.

But I know I can do more, so this morning, I contacted Ann-Marie Laney
at the National Center (call 410-659-9314 x 2219) and agreed to sell
one box (twenty coins) by November 1st.

Are you and your chapters up to the challenge?  Imagine the change we
can make with 400,000 silver dollars!!  Let's get this done!!

Regards,

LESS THAN 10% OF BLIND CHILDREN ARE TAUGHT BRAILLE.
70% OF WORKING-AGE BLIND ADULTS ARE UNEMPLOYED.
FULLY-EMPLOYED BLIND PEOPLE ARE OVERWHELMINGLY BRAILLE LITERATE!

MAKE CHANGE WITH A DOLLAR!
There is a braille literacy crisis in America and you can be a part of
the solution!  Sales of the 2009 commemorative Louis Braille coin will
raise $8 million to benefit braille literacy programs nationwide!
