I may be off base here but isn't there a law in the state dealing with
discrimination in providing insurance which mandates against using blindness
as a factor in providing a higher rating to a blind person? It may be that
the law only deals with life insurance, but it is worth exploring.

Hi Mary,
My apologies for the confusing typographical error; yes my question regards
longer term care insurance for people not cars.

I have not been denied coverage it is just that the premium is so much
higher due to blindness than was originally quoted before the underwriters
reviewed my medical records.

We will look into other companies, like Bryan suggested, to see what their
premiums are.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

Hi Gary,
First of all, welcome to CA.  I hope you and your wife can be with us in
October.  If you can get here by Thursday, 10/22 11:30 a.m. we will be
loading up a bus to take a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.  Love to have

you.

As for your question about insurance.  I am a little confused.  Are you
looking for car insurance or long term care insurance.  Jim and I have
Allstate for the cars but we do pay more.

In California, no insurance company (long term) can deny you coverage
because of your blindness.  Call me.  Let's talk.  It might be time for this

topic to be discussed at the convention.

Hello,
My wife and I moved to San Diego from Seattle a couple of years ago. I have
attended a few state conventions in Washington and hoping to come to Newark
this fall.

We are currently investigating some Long Term Car Insurance; we are both in
our late 50s.
Our premium is about double the amount if I was not "blind". Even though my
wife is on several medications and I am on none I am much more of a risk to
the insurance company.

I was wondering if anyone on he list has any experience with Long Term Care
Insurance and may know of any company that may not be so blind phobic.

Tanks for any input.

Gary Deeter

Since there is no such thing as long term car insurance it has to be long
term care insurance.

Gary, Mary et al,

I've had long term care insurance with State Farm for many years.  No
extra charge for my blindness, by the way, and the ability to use the
benefit both at a facility or in my own home if I wish.

Good luck,

Bryan
