CUPERTINO - Meg Whitman, Republican candidate for Governor, today
announced the endorsement of former Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, the first
Hispanic woman to represent California's 80th Assembly District that ends
at the California-Mexican border. Garcia withdrew her earlier endorsement
of Steve Poizner after expressing disappointment with his negative campaign
strategy and becomes the thirteenth Republican leader to switch her support
from Steve Poizner to Meg Whitman.

"Bonnie Garcia is joining our campaign to build A New California, because
the time to make a difference is now," Whitman said. "We have had enough of
the status quo in California. The Inland Empire is an incredibly important
part of our state and I look forward to working with Bonnie to make sure
that the government is more efficient and accountable to the hardworking
taxpayers who live there."

"Meg Whitman has the right kind of leadership experience, vision and
focus we need," Garcia said. "With more than 2 million Californians out of
work, Meg is the only candidate with a real plan to keep and create jobs in
California, fix our schools and keep our communities safe. Meg is committed
to strengthening our economy and restoring the promises of this Golden
State for our families and future generations. Common sense, business sense
and a no-nonsense attitude is what we need in our state and that's why
she's the only candidate who can beat Jerry Brown in November."

Garcia was elected to the California State Assembly in 2002 and
represented Riverside and Imperial Counties. During her tenure, she was the
only Latina Republican in the state legislature and was known for working
across party lines to address childhood obesity, create jobs and improve
education.

Currently she is Chairwoman of the California Unemployment Insurance
Appeals Board, the lead agency charged with resolving disputed
unemployment, disability and tax claims.

Bonnie will be joining Meg's Latino Coalition as a Statewide Co-Chair.
