Here's an announcement from the Challenged 
Athletes Foundation.  I bought a tandem with help

Access for Athletes — Challenged Athletes 
Foundation's® (CAF) flagship program — steps in 
where rehabilitation and health insurance end by 
providing funding grants for equipment such as 
sports wheelchairs, handcycles, mono skis and 
sports prosthetics, and resources for training 
and competition expenses directly to physically 
challenged individuals.  Access for Athletes 
grants are distributed annually. Applications are 
available September 1 every year and must be 
postmarked by December 1.  Grant amounts are 
based on the request, and on financial need.
