Fellow Federationists,

Last week was another major milestone in the successful advocacy of the FDR Dems for seniors and people with disabilities. I want to update you on our work to increase the employment of people with disabilities in City Service in San Francisco. On Thursday, June 5, the Board of Supervisors Neighborhood Services and Safety Committee held a hearing on this issue. This hearing was a resounding success in shedding light on the importance of employment for our communities. Sincere appreciation to Supervisor Eric Mar for calling this hearing; and also Supervisor David Chiu, who, while not a standing member of the Committee took time from his schedule to attend and speak in favor of our Club's work and to press the City to take more significant action in this area. I also want to express my gratitude to the many people with disabilities who attended, and to the broad coalition of non-profits from across the Bay Area who joined us.

Now, we need your help. Read our latest blog post<http://www.fdrdemclub.com/index.php/entry/update-disability-employment-hearing> to learn more about the hearing and how you can get involved! The Board of Supervisors will begin consideration of the City's 2 year budget in the coming days, and this will be the best opportunity we will have to persuade the City to implement our recommendations.

Please contact<http://www.fdrdemclub.com/index.php/entry/update-disability-employment-hearing> the Board of Supervisors and ask them to support increased employment of people with disabilities in City Service. With an unemployment rate of roughly 13%, and only 20% of people with disabilities even part of the workforce, we have no time to waste in finding successful strategies. A strong model in San Francisco can be easily replicated across California.

Best,
Jonathan
