KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman said she broke up with her live-in boyfriend

Saturday after three years of dating. Two days later, she said he tried to kill her

and her best friend.

It is important to know that the victim, Elisha Harden, is blind. Since she broke

up with boyfriend Larry Simms, she had been staying elsewhere. Monday morning, she

thought Simms would already be at work when she went home to get ready for work herself.

But when she got there she and her friend, Walita Williams, got a big surprise.

“He’s like, ‘b**** I took off of work for this, and I knew I was going to catch you,’”

said Walita. “As I was calling 911, he ran to get a knife, and he came back with

the knife and he rubbed it across her legs and across her body.”

“He tells me to get up and sit on the floor by the door,” said Elisha

Walita said she knew the situation was escalating to a point where if she did something

wrong, she might have died.

“I know if I make any sudden moves, he is going to stab me and if he kills me, he

is definitely going to kill her. I can’t be any help to her,” she said. “I tried

to reason with him. I was crying, I was begging, we was singing ‘Yes, Jesus loves

me,’ we were praying, everything but that just made it worse.”

Elisha said that she was interrogated by Simms, and when she said something he didn’t

like, there were consequences.

“Every time he asked a question, and he didn’t like the answer, he would hit me in

the head with the hammer,” Elisha said.

Elisha showed FOX 4′s Shannon O’Brien the bloodstained cloth she used to try and

stop the bleeding. When asked how they got free, Elisha paints a picture that shows

just because she’s blind, doesn’t mean she can’t sense you.

“It’s kind of like I always tell my kids, ‘as long as you are over there, you are

fine but if you get close enough to me, I got ya’.’” she explained. “He walked up

on me and was pricking my face like that, so I was taking my arm and trying to feel

how close he was, so, and that’s it. He was close enough that I just grabbed the

knife.”

The moment Elisha gained the knife provided an escape opportunity for both women.

“Once I seen he couldn’t handle her and she really had a hold of the knife, I took

off. And he came after me and she ran out the back door,” Walita said. “As he was

coming that way, I knew he was going for the rest of the knives. So I ran in the

kitchen and swiped the knives off the counter, and I grabbed one and put it to him,

I said, ‘I’m not going to cut you, just leave.’”

Not only is Elisha mighty, but she is smart. After Simms took off, she tracked him

on her ‘Find My Phone App,’ which led police to Harrah’s Casino where Simms was arrested.

He is now in jail, charged with four felonies, one misdemeanor and is being held

on a $100,000 cash bond. His charges include first-degree domestic assault, armed

criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree domestic assault and third-degree

assault.
