Hello all,

Here is an update on our AIM HIGH proposal. It is unfortunate that the
American Council on Education is not moving forward in good faith, but we
shall move forward.

Stay tuned for more as developments unfold.

Best Regards,

Michael Hingson

Subject: [NFB-Legislative-Directors] An Update on AIM-HEA

Howdy Fellow Federationists,

As you know, for the last fourteen months we have been negotiating with the
American Council on Education and the Association of American Publishers to
draft legislation that will benefit all three stakeholder groups. As the
representative of blind students, NFB has been working diligently to ensure
that any compromises that are made will not adversely affect blind and print
disabled individuals. Despite hard-fought compromises, the process has been
bogged down by a variety of factors. As a result, in addition to our
continued negotiations with the higher education lobby, we will be seeking
other alternatives to achieve equal access for blind students at
institutions of higher education nation-wide.

This morning, President Riccobono sent a letter
<https://nfb.org/blog/vonb-blog/letter-american-council-education-regarding-
state-our-negotiations-and-nfbs-plans> to the president of the American
Council on Education to discuss the current state of our negotiations, and
to inform her of NFB's plans for moving forward. I encourage you to read and
share this letter with your affiliates, and stay tuned, we have exciting
things in the works to ensure blind students can live the lives they want!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for all that you do,

...Gabe

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
