The National Federation of the Blind knows that Blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future.
Every day we raise the expectations of Blind people because low expectations create obstacles between Blind people and our dreams;
You can live the life you want,
Blindness is not what holds you back.

Hello Maria,
I am totally blind, and have done all three of the things you
mentioned to a greater or lesser extent. I am the administrator for the
Accessible Science web site

and have built two web sites from the ground up, one using HTML coding and
the other using Drupal. While I always have someone give a web site I build
a quick visual and enlist their help in selecting a theme and colors that
look good, all the coding is done by me. I am an adaptive technology
instructor, and folks on this list can testify that I am one of several
go-to people when it comes to putting things into Braille. I tell you this
not to brag on myself, but to demonstrate that you too can do these things.
Please feel free to contact me offlist.

Subject: [Nfbc-info] Suggestions please.

Hi, I was wondering if any of you could help me with some suggestions as to
what sort of careers would be accessible to a person who is totally blind.
I was thinking about Braille transcription but a few people have told me
that that career is mainly for those that are sighted since they would have
to be able to read the print in order to transcribe it into Braille.

I also have certification in Assistive technology, however, I have heard
that in order to get a job I need to pass the RESNA exam and become a
specialist in the field. Has anyone taken the RESNA exam?

I'm also considering researching website development and was wondering if
anyone is in that industry.

I thank you in advance for your consideration and assistance with this.

Mainly I just would love to work in something I'd enjoy.

Regards,

Maria
