[Nfbc-info] Nfbc-info Digest, Vol 129, Issue 17

Hi,

Are you sure the fare is $296 twice? I doubt it at this time. Usually
American's quotes are a total fare. American flies through Dallas, but the
total fare should be $296.

Best Regards,

Michael Hingson

Does anybody know of a cheaper airfare to Orlando, Florida? i am trying to
get their for the national Federation of the blind convention which will be
held June 30 through July 5 at the Rosen shingle Creek resort. I looked on
American and the cheapest they had was $296 from Ontario to Dallas and then
Dallas to Orlando. Which if you times that by two is $592. Which is a bit
out of my budget right now I was hoping to spend $430-$450 which is what I
heard Carmin weatherly paid last year for airfare because I
know we gave Her a stipend of $435 to pay for her airfare.

> I want to urge all of you not to fall for a particularly vicious and
> despicable phone scam that seems to be going on now and that may be
targeted toward the elderly. I have experienced this myself and, although i
knew it was a scam, I still found it a little frightening and it made me
very angry. You get a phone call informing you that you are being sued by
the IRS and must take immediate action to avoid being arrested or having
legal actions taken against you. This is a scam. Don't fall for it! The IRS
would not make such calls. Information to taxpayers would be mailed and
would not involve threats. I received three recorded phone calls on my
iPhone. the message informed me that I was being sued by the IRS and that
this was my final warning. i was further told to call a number at "our
department" to get the details of the suit against me. Each time the number
to call was different. I knew this was a scam so i ignored the calls and
they stopped. but I hear from news reports that people are falling for this
and sending money to stop the legal action. People are naturally scared when
they get threatening calls supposed to be from the government so they fall
for this trick. don't be a victim of this. I suspect that most of you are
smart enough not to be tricked by these calls but please share this
information with friends or family members who you think might be
vulnerable to this scam. I wasn't sure who to report the calls to so I did
nothing but I wish now I had done some follow-up. This was also talked about
on KMOX news this week. So ignore the calls if you get them and just hang
up.

the effort's of the national Federation of the blind for continuing its
diligent work to resolve this issue. Next I would like to hear how you are
handling acts of discrimination by Uber drivers. Here is what I have done. I
have tried to reason with drivers I have sent letters to Uber support I have
even texted the driver and of course I have forwarded my emails to the NF be
as of last Wednesday I documented my ninth complaint to the goober support
team. Yes, it gets worse. Last Friday I was denied ride service three times
yes three times. I was charged a cancellation fee for one of the rides I
have filed a complaint with Uber support as well as my credit card company.
It is more about the principal then the money. I am not sure what else to do
on my end. Yes, my guy dog is well groomed and well behaved I am well
mannered and well dressed and make it a point to contact the driver to ask
him to look for me because I am visually impaired. Based on my experience
the acts of unlawful discrimination are increasing. I feel frustrated I am
tired of missing appointments or getting to the bank after it closes. Please
share your thoughts and any solutions you have found to decrease or
illuminate acts of discrimination.

> The North Carolina Division of Services for the Blind (DSB) Transition
> Program provides Pre-Employment Transition Services to North Carolina
students that have visual impairment, blindness or deaf-blindness to assist
them in reaching their goals of independence and competitive employment. As
a part of this program, students are often assigned a Transition Counselor
in their area to assist them in preparing for the world of work. In the
past, DSB has been able to sponsor, as a part of a comprehensive program of
vocational rehabilitation services, student participation in the Engineering
Camp for Students with VIB at the NCSU College of Engineering.DSB plans on
supporting qualified students for this program as well. Through this
program, students have gained a lot of insight and experience that will help
them in any career they choose to pursue. To obtain more information about
the Transition Program through Services for the Blind and their support of
the Engineering Camp for Students with VIB at the NCSU College of
