Lyft has a comparable "prime time" function that can increase the cost.
Both apps give you a warning before you book the ride that it will be at a
premium.

Hey Eileen,
The Uber app will very clearly tell you when they are using surge pricing
and by how much.
As I understand it, Lyft doesn't do surge pricing. This means that when
demand is high your choices are to either wait longer for a lyft ride or pay
more for an Uber ride.
