Here is how I manage traveling when taking the train I hope this helps. First, I typically travel with my guy dog Guiding on my left side I sometimes wear a backpack and on my right shoulder I carry my breathing machine behind me I pull my suitcase

If I am traveling in an unfamiliar train station I will except sighted assistance I ask the person to walk a little bit ahead of me on my right hand side and to tell me where here she is turning. If they offer to carry one of my bags I accept. Remember, these individuals make their living helping individuals be sure to tip these individuals.

From, Lisa Irving

You're welcome Kammerman. I have a question for you and you all. How can I manage my cane as well as luggage and baggage and also manage to board the train? I mean what do I give up? I have to be able to carry my cane in one hand, and that takes up one hand. I also have to be able to hold the rail of the train in the other. That takes up another where do I get a third hand? I mean, when I went to the national convention, people in West Palm Beach, Florida, were very helpful, but not everybody is like that. They helped me manage my bag and put it in the overhead and put it on board for me. Compare that with the conductor on Saturday evening it is a day and night difference. The conductor on Saturday on the train ride home, he was in oblivion to what was going on around him either that or he did not give a darn about people with disabilities. I mean, I almost fell and I'm sure everyone around me could hear me yell except for the conductor.

The Audio Description Project, an initiative of the American Council of the Blind (ACB), along with the Mid-Tennessee Council of the Blind, the Tennessee School for the Blind and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, announces an opportunity for blind people world-wide to experience the upcoming total eclipse of the sun.

> Between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. (CDT) on August 21, Dr. Joel Snyder will host ?A Total Eclipse ? Audio Described!? on ACB Radio. Snyder, the director of ACB?s Audio Description Project, will present an hour of songs (?Ain?t Got No Sunshine,? ?Here Comes the Sun,? ?Blinded by the Light,? ?When The Sun Goes Down,? etc.), interviews and special guests ? with the main event being described live from the Tennessee School for the Blind between 1:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. (CDT). Trained audio describer, Nashville-based Julia Cawthon, will describe the eclipse as it happens and provide a vivid ?translation? of the visual event into words for the benefit of anyone who tunes in.
