[Nfbc-info] okay you legal eagles, I have a question

Hi,
I have asked the libraries and sr. centers with no such luck. They all say
either that they don't have anyone who has time or there is a liability
factor.

The liability factor is what I wrote about in my email. That is the issue I
do not know how to get around. I have usually had someone around, friend or
family member to help, but now I do not have that alternative. I will try
the Lions and there's a sorority that supposedly helps the blind I'll look
into. However, if they give me the same liability stuff, then I'm stuck.

I've had some people give me the liability thing about rides too, though
others have provided transportation readily, so one never knows. I just wish
I knew what the law really is about there being a liability in helping blind
people with either transportation or working with our mail.
Thanks,
Lauren

Lauren,

Some good suggestions have been given here. Do you have any friends or
relatives close by you can ask? You might also try other community service
organizations besides Lions. Also, is there an independent living center
nearby? A long shot might be to ask someone at your public library if there
are library volunteers you might approach.

Best Regards,

I don't know what entities would help with mail but it sounds like you could
find a volunteer from a church or other organization. I have known of
situations where high school or college students have gotten credit for
volunteering to perform community service.

Hi Lauren,

Have you thought about trying to contact a local Lions Club?

Hi,

I am having trouble finding someone to help me with my mail. The KNFB reader
does help me identify mail, which helps me sort it, but I am so behind, I
need a human to help.

The entities here keep saying they can help with this or that, but not with
my mail because it involves my personal financial info. They say this is a
liability because someone could take advantage of me by knowing my financial
info. I am not sure that this liability stuff is true. Does anyone out there
have info to help me get someone to help me with my mail? I've never had
issues about it in the past. But when I was living in Fairfield, the issue
came up and now here in Eugene, it's coming up bigtime.

Thanks,

Lauren
