When I worked in the mid to late 90's, I had a friend do my taxes each year,
and she did just fine.

Any legitimate accountant and I'm assuming when you say accountant and not
tax preparer you are referring to a CPA should be able to help you. The
issues for blind tax filers are not that different except that blind tax
filers can claim an extra exemption when filing. This is clearly stated when
filing a tax return. Other issues relating to work related deductions would
apply to any person who may need to itemize deductions. It is a bit
insulting to us blind professionals to think that we in today's society need
to find a specific professional that works with blind people. I don't think
we would be asking this if we were a racial or ethnic minority. As a gay
male I don't go out of my way to look for professionals that work with gay
people so why would I do it because of being blind? I doubt that this is
part of the NFB philosophy or I hope it isn't.

Hello all it is Chela once again. I will be starting my job I previously
mentioned while back when Brought up the Social Security thread to which I
had great responses from several of you and I hope to get another great
batch of responses again from several of you again.
I will be starting work on November 3rd.
I tried to reach out recently to the Lighthouse for the Blind and have not
received a response yet probably because no one knows the answer to my
inquiry or perhaps they are dealing with the wildfires and such.
Anyway here is hoping I will get an answer.
Can anyone recommend a tax accountant that works specifically with blind tax
filers? Since this will be my first job working for a school district
through an independent privately owned company that doesn't provide benefits
and such, I will have to find a reputable tax accountant that works with
blind people to help file yearly taxes. I know that on the TurboTax site it
states thatthere are certain rules blind people must follow and reading all
of it overwhelms me because I don't quite understand and would rather talk
to a tax accountant that specializes in helping file taxes working with
blind people. Seeing as is my new job will be starting November 3rd and it
will be my first job, I want to do the taxes and such, right. If anyone has
any recommendations for tax accountants in the bay area, that would be nice.
Specifically one who works with blind tax filers.
Thank you,
Chela Robles
PS.
If this needs to be discussed off the list, you can write to me at
cdrobles693 at gmail.com and if you can, please when you recommend tax
accountants provide their names and contact information including company
they work for so I can further research them.
