I know Dr. Shaheen. She was the Director of Education for a long time at the Jernigan Institute in Baltimore. In that role, she was responsible for initiating and executing many incredibly impactful programs for students, including NFB EQ and NFB STEM2U, which I attended in 2015 and 2016. She is an impressive individual, and I’m excited to see the impact she will no doubt have on the education field, both for blind students and in general. Please share this with anyone who may help with Dr. Shaheen’s research. Thanks!

Best,
CXB

> Are you (or do you know) a blind or low-vision student whose school uses technology for teaching and learning? Is some of that technology hard or impossible for you to use due to accessibility barriers? Your story could help change educators’ and technologists’ ideas about accessible technology. Previous research<http://hdl.handle.net/11603/17533> has shown that blind people’s stories helped to change educators’ hearts and minds about accessible technology.
> Dr. Natalie Shaheen<https://nlshaheen.com/>, Assistant Professor of special education at Illinois State University and former Director of Education for the National Federation of the Blind, is doing research to gather blind and low-vision students’ (age 13-22) stories about using accessible and inaccessible technology at school. Dr. Shaheen will share the results of the research with educators and technologists to, hopefully, begin to change some of the technology practices in education and increase disabled students’ access.
